I have felt for a while, after having worked in a number of practices, that I have a vision of how I’d like to run a firm and now feel that the time is right to set up my own business providing excellent service in plain English.

Shortly after leaving college I started an apprenticeship in a local accountancy firm and fell in love. I have always enjoyed numbers but accountancy is so much more – it is puzzle solving and helping people.

I quickly found that my favourite part of the job was dealing with clients, learning about and helping them. This could involve helping them run their business or accounting records, helping with tax planning or just offering a friendly face for them to deal with. The aim was to be more than just an accountant but to actually help clients.

I progressed further to complete both the AAT and ACCA professional qualifications which means that I am now a certified accountant.

I am also a certified advisor on both Xero and QuickBooks bookkeeping software as well as being a fluent user in SAGE Line 50. Further to this I spent three years teaching accountancy part time at a local college and feel that this allows me to more easily communicate with clients.

My motto when setting up my business is that the customer always gets the same level of great service no matter how big or small, and I always pride myself on my ability to know everything about the clients that I am responsible for and recognise them easily on the street!

I originally worked in sales for the first 10 years of my working life, then one moment at my desk I thought “I don’t want to be doing this when I’m 50”. I was always very good at numbers so went about learning AAT and never looked back – the rest, they say, is history.

Having worked for a couple of the larger local firms I have felt there must be a better way of delivering a service to clients.

Whether that be quicker response times to emails, simply knowing that your accounts and tax returns are being looked at, or completing tax returns and accounts more efficiently, therefore giving the maximum amount of time possible between clients knowing what their tax liability is and having to pay it.

I pride myself on communicating frequently and clearly with clients. This ensures nothing gets missed and clients feel able to ask any question, no matter how small. I also respond to clients outside of normal office hours as I understand some clients simply don’t have the time during the working day.

Personally, the best part of the job is explaining how accounts work to clients in a language they understand, then helping them plan into the future so they can achieve whatever it is they want to with their business or personally.

I studied AAT at Weston College and then progressed on to study ACCA in Bristol. I am QuickBooks Advanced Certified so I am very at home with Cloud Accounting and Making Tax Digital.

Giving an exceptional service is what I believe is most important to our clients.
